Another vehicle in NorAmC's Cat series, the Lynx is designed to provide low-level air defense for mechanized forces. Unlike most other anti-aircraft systems, it carries both gun (25mmLP 3-barreled Gatling gun) and missile (127mm IIRH); additionally, a coaxial 10mmC rotary MG is provided for local defense. In theory, this allows the gunner to select the best weapon for the job; in practice, both weapons are seldom needed in the same engagement and one runs out of ammo fairly quickly. One noticable drawback is that the weapons are not stabilized; for accurate fire, the Lynx must stop (this is less of a problem for the missiles than the guns). It uses radar to acquire targets and, in most cases (to prevent easy retaliatory strikes), uses the turret's LLTV to track and engage them (if the target is close enough, the thermograph can be used as well).
Aside from its designed role, the Lynx has also been used against light vehicles and infantry, though its light armor (even by the standards of the Cat series) makes this risky. Since it is noticably cheaper than the Bobcat light tank (by some $400,000), some have been turned into impromptu tank destroyers. The air-search radar is usually replaced with another sensor in such cases if the Lynx is permanently being converted to use as a tank destroyer. There have been experiments with loading one missile launcher with SAMs and the other with ATGMs (in combat, some gunners have engaged targets with the wrong kind of missile, so this mixed load is rarely seen).

Design Notes
Frame is heavy for 400 cf body, 100 cf turret and 240 cf tracks. Structural
and surface features include total compartmentalization, sealed, basic
IR cloaking, sound baffling, and basic chameleon. The turret is universal
with a cyberslave and all ammo is in anti-blast magazines.
Lynx II Air-Defence System
This mounts a heaver gun (a two-barreled 40mm Gatling) but smaller missiles (adapted from an infantry shoulder-launched SAM). It is generally used by forces that do not expect to face ground-attack aircraft more formidable than helicopters.
