LAV-30 (TL 8 armored car)

The LAV-30 (Light Armor Vehicle, 30mm) is a light AFV used for scouting and internal security duties. It is most commonly used by megacorporation security forces and third world armies. It has only so-so protection by armored car standards but is more than adequate against most light infantry weapons, especially those used by guerillas and rioters. The cargo space is often used to carry two infantrymen (rather uncomfortably) as forward observers or as riot police.

For quite a bit of money, the armor can substantially upgraded at no significant weight change - base DR 116 hull and DR 82 turret (before sloping effects) at an added cost of $60,550. Several different turrets are available to the buyer. Interestingly, none feature guided missiles. The ammo mix is for military users; for riot control, the minigun uses plastic bullets and the autocannon uses a mix of CHEM (tear gas, usually) and HE rounds.

Other turrets are available. All turret components other than the 30mm cannon and its ammo are the same as in the basic version. Weights of the other turrets are close enough not to affect performance.

LAV-106R (Anti-tank variant): 106mm recoiless rifle, 18 HEAT rounds, 8 HE rounds, saves $6,500

LAV-20V (Air-defense variant): 20mm rotary cannon, 800 SAPHE rounds, cyberslaved/universal mount, adds $14,000

LAV-40 (Upgunned scout): 40mm autocannon, 155 APDS rounds, adds $2,000
