The Type 61 was the standard Japanese tank of the 1960's and 1970's, with some 560 being built starting in 1962. In 1975, the Type 74 began replacing it. The Type 61 bears a slight resemblance to the American M-47 Patton.
The Type 61 is the tank design most likely to be trampled by giant radioactive monsters, seeing service in such Japanese movies from 1964 to 1975.
