SturmMannPanzer II

The SMP II is a light mech designed to accompany infantry on assaults against emplaced enemy troops. It also serves as a terror weapon against poorly equipped troops, including partisans and civilians.

The right arm punches for 11d+2 cr and the left arm swings for 18d+2 cr. Body ST is 104. In theory, the mecha can travel submerged, sealing the engine compartment and running on batteries (which have a lifespan of 40 minutes in this role). However, a roll vs HT+5 must be made whenever the mecha submerges or the engine compartment floods (which also shorts out the batteries), requiring extensive repairs in a field shop (or a new engine) and the pilot attempting to swim to the surface.

The SMP II uses 0.2 gallons of gasoline per hour at routine usage.

Design Notes
All the mecha rules from W:WW were used, except for the “cheap” transmission cost from the core book (see Variants for an “expensive” transmission). An exception is gAccel, which uses the “kick start” rule from VE2. The design gAccel, which was used for gSpeed determination was 1 (for mecha with a top speed under 30mph, the “kick start” acceleration is: 4 x top speed / speed factor (p.W146)).

Legged transmissions under 5 kW weigh 160 lbs times kW. Gasoline engines under 5 kW weigh 12 lbs per kW. Body ST is (Leg kW – weight in tons) x 80, with a minimum of ST/2 and a maximum of STx2.

The “expensive” transmission version is $28,600 with a maintenance interval of 37 hours.
