The m/39 was a large Swedish armored car which entered service in
1939 and wasn't retired until 1950. Unlike many armored cars of the
time, the M/39 was a purpose-built 4x4 vehicle, not simply an armored
body on a strengthened commercial ttruck chassis unlike other Landsverk
armored cars. The four wheels were well-spaced and the armor
well-sloped. One throwback was the inclusion of a rear-driver
with duplicate controls. Initially, solid tires were used, but they
were found to be troublesome and were replaced with regular pneumatic
tires.
A small number were sold to Denmark. Fifteen awaiting delilvery were
confiscated by the Swedes after Denmark fell to Germany. These were
designated Panserbil m/39. A futher 30 were specifically built for
Sweden by Volvo and were known as the Panserbil m/40 (identical in game
terms).
The m/39 had a crew of six: a commander and gunner sit in the turret, two drivers, an two hull MG gunners, It used 4.6 gallons of gasoline per hour at routine usage.
