The Tyr-class patrol cruiser is the most common Sword Worlds patrol cruiser and reflects the precarious position the Sword Worlds occupy in the Spinward Marches. Two versions of the Tyr exist; the earliest was heavily armored but proved to be very slow. As the dual Darrian and Imperial menance continued to grow, it became apparent that a faster ship was needed, even if that meant the Tyr class would have to be underarmored. Eventually, about twice as many 'fast' cruisers were built compared to the 'armored' ones.
Neither are a match for Imperial or Darrian light warships, however, and the Sword Worlds know this. However, the Sword Worlders believe it is better to serve on obsolete ships than to surrender to imperialistic powers. Since the "Ator Massacre" in 1119 of a peaceful Sword Worlds trade mission, production of both versions have been stepped up, as the Darrians have clearly shown the pacifist face they present is an outright lie.
The armored version is MCr 502.61 and 6,173 stons loaded. Acceleration is 1.03 loaded and DR is 2800.
